The Cleveland Indians clinched the Central Division title for the second straight season on Saturday night. Their 8-4 victory over Kansas City combined with the Twins loss to Toronto later that night clinched it for Cleveland. The Indians saved the celebration for Sunday. Tribe skipper Tito Francona addressed the crowd and the 2017 Central Division Championship banner was raised before Sunday’s game.
Indians players took time after Sunday’s 3-2 win to let loose and get in some celebrating before they head out to the West coast to face the Angels.
With twelve games remaining on the schedule the Indians stand at (93-57). They are currently 1-1/2 games ahead of the Houston Astros for the #1 seed and home field throughout the American League playoffs. If the Indians can hang on to the #1 seed they will face the wildcard winner in the American League division series which begins on October 5th.
