Veteran NBA center Kendrick Perkins has agreed to a G-League contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers affiliate Canton Charge. Perkins, 32, was waived by the Cavaliers on Saturday after being signed to a training camp contract and spending the preseason with Cleveland. In three preseason games he averaged 4 points and 3.7 rebounds. Perkins is looking to continue his NBA career and is hoping this G-League stint will give him that opportunity.
“I’m serious and I’m committed to this opportunity,” Perkins said. “I will sacrifice to show the NBA.”
Perkins has a standing offer from Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue to join his coaching staff and begin a coaching career. In the event he is unable to get another NBA opportunity Perkins made it known that he would consider Lue’s offer.
“I definitely want to coach when I hang them up,” Perkins told cleveland.com. “Right now my mind is on trying to play. Not only can I be a voice in the locker room, but I feel I can go out and contribute 8-to-12 minutes a night.”
