Canton Charge Roster Preview

The Canton Charge begin their 2017/2018 season on Saturday (11/4) at Greensboro. The Charge finished 3rd in the Central Division last season posting a 29-21 record. They were defeated in the first round of the playoff by eventual D-League Champion Raptors 905. Let’s take a look at the 2017/2018 12-man roster.

 

AR-160929299 Nate Reinking – Head Coach – Kent State

Nate Reinking returns for his second season as head coach of the Charge. He joined the team as an assistant coach for the 2013/2014 season. Reinking came to Canton with 20 years of experience as a player and coach. He starred locally in college at Kent State.

geraldbeverly Gerald Beverly – F – 6’8″ – 235 lbs – Daemen College

Gerald Beverly returns for his second season with the Charge. He averaged 4.8 points and 3.4 rebounds last season. Beverly was a 3rd rd pick in the 2016 NBA D-League draft by the Los Angeles Defenders who waived him six days later.

arthuredwards Arthur Edwards – G – 6’6″ – 210 lbs – Alabama

Arthur Edwards was acquired via trade from the Maine Red Claws on September 25th. He averaged 7.5 points and 3.8 rebounds last season for Maine.

NCAA Basketball: Maui Invitational Game 8 UCLA Bruins v Kansas Jayhawks Isaac Hamilton – G – 6’4″ – 194 lbs – UCLA

Isaac Hamilton joins the Charge as an affiliate player after spending time in the preseason with the Cleveland Cavaliers. His senior season at UCLA he averaged 14.1 points per game after leading the conference in scoring his junior season.

johnholland John Holland – G/F – 6’5″ – 205 lbs – Boston University

John Holland returns to Canton as a two-way player from the Cleveland Cavaliers.  He led the Charge in scoring (22.9) last season which was good for 7th in the league. The sharpshooting guard should once again be the go to scorer for the Charge.

perkins Kendrick Perkins – F/C – 6’10” – 270 lbs – Ozen High School

Kendrick Perkins agreed to join the Charge in an attempt to revive his NBA career after getting waived by the Cavaliers. The 13-year NBA veteran has averaged 5.4 points and 5.8 rebounds in his career. He will provide a veteran presence for the young G-Leaguers.

perrantes London Perrantes – G – 6’2″ – 190 lbs – Virginia

London Perrantes joins Canton as a two-way player from the Cleveland Cavaliers. The undrafted guard out of Virginia averages 12.8 points and 3.8 assists in his senior season at Virginia and was named 2nd team all ACC.

Maksym-Pustozvonov-1439561082-123738 Maksym Pustozvonov – F – 6’7″ – 215 lbs – Ukraine

Maksym Pustozvonov was the 17th pick in the 2017 NBA G-League draft. He spent last season playing for U-Banca Transilvania Cluj in Romania where he averaged 8.4 points per game while shooting 40% from three point range.

akeemsprings Akeem Springs – G – 6’4″ – 220 lbs – Minnesota

Akeem Springs made the Charge roster as a local tryout. Springs averaged 9.5 points per game and 38% from three point range in his senior season with the Golden Gophers.

The FSU vs Elizabeth City State mens basketball game on Monday January 6, 2014 Tyrell Tate – G – 6’5″ – 217 lbs – Fayetteville State

Tyrell Tate made the Charge roster as a local tryout. He averaged 18.7 points per game in his senior season for Division II Fayetteville State.

Marcus Thornton was acquired by Canton in trade with the Maine Red Claws on September 25th. He was a 2015 second round pick (45th overall) in the NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics. Thornton averaged 17 points per game in his career at William & Mary.

Jacorey WIlliams joins Canton as an affiliate player after spending some time in training camp with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Williams averaged 17.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game in his senior season at Middle Tennessee State.

648407386 Mike Williams – G – 6’2″ – 185 lbs – Cal State Fullerton

Mike Williams returns to the Canton Charge after averaging 5.6 points and shooting 41% from three point range in 41 games last season.
