The time has finally arrived. Isaiah Thomas will make his long awaited debut with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night against the Portland Trailblazers at the Q.
Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue told reporters Monday that Thomas will come off of the bench and will be on a minutes restriction. He also will not play in back-to-back games for the time being which rules him out for Wednesday’s game against his former team the Boston Celtics.
In the past week and a half Thomas has taken part in a 5 on 5 scrimmage with the Canton Charge and two 5 on 5 scrimmages with the Cavaliers. All indications are that Thomas looked good and has cleared all obstacles needed to make his return to NBA games.
“My hip is better but I have no rhythm,” Thomas told reporters Monday. “It feels like I lost my powers. … But once I get out there, it’s going to be hard to hold me back.”
With the Cavaliers recent struggles they could certainly use the high scoring Thomas in the lineup to take pressure off of Lebron James. Once Thomas gets back in the groove he will take Jose Calderon’s spot in the starting lineup.
